SWAT:
Also known as “mini Switzerland”, at the average altitude of 980 meters, in the Malakand division of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa stands the valley of Swat. Before Islamization, the valley once belonged to Hinduism then Gandharan Buddhism until the 10th century, leaving many reminiscences of the cultures. Lying in the laps of Hindukush Mountains Swat valley’s archeology, the lush green sites, history, and its art attract tourists like a moth to the flame.
Malam Jabba:
Malam Jabba is a hill station in the Hindu Kush mountain range nearly 40 km from Saidu Sharif in Swat Valley, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It is 314 km from Islamabad and 51 km from Saidu Sharif Airport. Malam Jabba is home to one of the very few ski resorts in Pakistan. The area also contains two Buddhist stupas and six monasteries that are scattered around the resort. The presence of the monuments at such a height indicates that the area has been inhabited for over 2000 years. The Malam Jabba Ski Resort is owned by the Pakistani Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC).
Bahrain:
10 kilometers north of Madyan lies the beautiful town of Bahrain. The meaning of Bahrain is ‘two rivers’ because Daral and Swat Rivers meet here. The resorts and bazaars in the vicinity are known for their handicrafts. Some of the houses have carved wooden doors, pillars, and balconies indicating the craftsmanship of the local people.
Kalam:
Known for its lakes, waterfalls, and greenery. Kalam is one of the most popular destinations for tourists. There are small and fertile plateaus adding to its beauty. Additionally, the Ushu and Utrot rivers join in Kalam, to form the Swat River. The scenic view of Kalam is very calming to the nerves.
Mahodand Lake:
Mahodand Lake is a lake located in the upper Usho Valley at a distance of about 40 km from Kalam, Swat. The lake is accessible through Jeep Safaris. One can go fishing and boating. On the way, one can enjoy beautiful waterfalls and glaciers and wonderful landscapes.
Miandam:
At an elevation of 1,800 meters above sea level is situated Miandam, a picturesque hill station in Swat surrounded by terraced fields, fruit orchards, and lush green meadows including Dad Sar which lies on the edge of Miandam and Madyan Valley. The area provides a mesmerizing view of snow-covered mountains with the tweeting of birds that never seems to fade away.
Pari (Fairy) Lakes:
Pari Lake is located at the highest altitude in the mountain ranges of Utror, Swat Valley. It is comparatively greater in size and depth than the other lake situated in its vicinity. It is believed that fairies come down and bathe in the waters of this lake hence called Pari (Fairy) Lakes. the Lakes’ wide horizon, spectacular landscapes, and chilly breeze are the invaluable bounties of mother nature that prevail in the memory of visitors.
Galyat:
Derived from the Urdu word ‘Gali’ which an alley between two mountains on both sides of which there are valleys, the Galyat region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Stretches from Islamabad to both sides of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa-Punjab border, between Abbottabad and Murree.
